Tottenham star nets brace against South Sudan, offering timely confidence boost for Spurs

Tottenham star powers Egypt to a comprehensive win over South Sudan.

After Roberto De Zerbi succeeded in his immediate mission to keep Tottenham Hotspur afloat in the Premier League, ENIC backed the head coach with more than £300m on new recruits. Yet five games into the season, Spurs are searching for a Premier League victory.

The international break has perhaps arrived at the right time for Roberto De Zerbi, and while the team’s performances have visibly improved in the last few games, there remains plenty to address. The North London club’s first league goal did not arrive until matchday five, highlighting that even with the progress made under De Zerbi, there is still a long way to go.

Creating chances and scoring goals continue to be an issue. But there is some welcome news coming for Tottenham fans.

Omar Marmoush bags a brace in Egypt’s 5-0 demolition of South Sudan

Egypt made a strong statement in their AFCON 2027 qualifier campaign after demolishing South Sudan 5-0 in Juba. They responded emphatically to their opening 0-0 draw against Angola, producing a dominant performance to claim their first win in Group B.

Omar Marmoush netted a brace for Egypt; he doubled his nation’s tally in the 49th minute. The Tottenham forward completed his double eight minutes later, putting the Pharaohs 4-0 ahead and effectively killing the contest.

The 27-year-old had gone 17 matches without scoring for his club and national team before returning to find the net again during the match against South Sudan. With those goals, Marmoush has raised his international tally to 13 strikes with the Egypt national team. This should give a lot of confidence to the Cairo-born talent, who is yet to score his first goal in Tottenham colours after arriving on loan from Manchester City in the summer.

Marmoush has yet to find the back of the net in five appearances in all competitions, thereby failing to provide an immediate solution to Spurs’ woes in attack. The Egyptian international has shown flashes of his ability and potential, but for one reason or another, he’s lacked the finishing touch to a move.

Hopefully, a double in an AFCON qualifier should raise his spirits. It will be good to have Marmoush with some scoring touch ahead of a gruelling fixture schedule for Spurs.
