Pedro Porro has been working hard to recover from a hamstring injury sustained in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa.
Tottenham Hotspur headed into the first international break of the season winless and bottom of the Premier League table. They must see that unwanted sight for at least the length of this current prolonged three-week international break.
One benefit at least is that the extended hiatus to domestic action does mean that those who will be back in the near future will miss fewer Spurs fixtures as a result. Pedro Porro got injured before the break, suffering a hamstring problem in the first half of the 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa. He had returned from a minor muscle issue that kept him out for the last couple of games, only to last 19 minutes against Aston Villa before being replaced by Archie Gray.
The injury is expected to keep the 27-year-old out for around a month, forcing him to withdraw from the Spain squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Pedro Porro returns to Spain to work on his recovery from hamstring injury
According to a report from Spanish outlet Hoy, Porro took advantage of the week off given by Roberto De Zerbi and headed back to Spain to work with specialists to ensure he has optimal fitness levels for when he returns, while strengthening and conditioning around his hamstring.
The full-back has worked for years with physio David de la Hera, who runs the Badajoz-based Axis Polyclinic. Porro and De la Hera teamed with SPZ Iron to help the former work on his recovery from a hamstring injury. SPZ documented the Tottenham star’s visit and posted on Instagram:
“And this time, we were fortunate to welcome Pedro Porro: world champion, professional footballer, from Extremadura, and above all, a great person. Our colleague David de la Hera contacted our colleague Nuno to coordinate a joint effort among different professionals.
“The objective? To assess, adjust, and optimise various aspects of his preparation, combining perspectives, experience, and knowledge to always work in the same direction. Because when several professionals share information and work in a coordinated way, the result goes far beyond a single training session.”
The report adds that the medical specialists are also working to optimise Porro’s performance levels. The full-back’s trip to the province of Extremadura has been to speed up his recovery from the setback he suffered earlier this month.
Having previously worked closely with Axis Polyclinic, the Spurs defender will hope the experts can help him recover fully and get him back on the pitch soon. The absence of Porro creates immediate tactical complications for De Zerbi. Due to his technical ability, experience and leadership, the Spaniard is undoubtedly one of De Zerbi’s key figures.
So, the Italian tactician will in no way want to rush Porro back from injury and let him heal fully from his muscle issue.
