Micky van de Ven emerges as a priority defensive target for ‘this’ EPL giant and it is not Liverpool

Tottenham star tops Premier League giants’ centre-back wishlist.

Micky van de Ven only signed a fresh contract at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, before being made the club’s new captain following the departure of Cristian Romero.

The Netherlands international has endured a poor start to the season. He has been a part of the Spurs side that is yet to win in the Premier League. Yet, he remains a coveted commodity in England and across Europe.

It recently emerged that Liverpool have identified the Tottenham captain as a top target to replace Virgil van Dijk, who is expected to leave Anfield when his contract runs out next summer. However, the Reds are not alone in their admiration of the 25-year-old.

Manchester United make Micky van de Ven top defensive target in 2027

According to former chief scout Mick Brown, Micky van de Ven has become a leading defensive target for Manchester United ahead of the 2027 summer transfer window. Michael Carrick’s side are closely monitoring the player’s situation as they plot a potential move next year.

“Man United want defenders, and there aren’t many better options out there than Van De Ven,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“Man United have major issues with the pace in their defence when you look at players like [Harry] Maguire, [Matthijs] De Ligt, [Lisandro] Martinez. Van de Ven would bring that in spades. So, from what I’m told, he is right at the top of their list of targets, and he is seen as the ideal addition for when Carrick wants to strengthen at the back.

“The key will be if Tottenham continue to struggle, because if they finish down the bottom of the table again, it’s going to be very hard to keep hold of players like Van De Ven.

“He decided to stay this season, but there is every chance he could be tempted away, so Man United have to be ready to make a move.”

Tottenham have no plans to part ways with Van de Ven

With Maguire past his prime, Martinez and De Ligt injury-prone, and the likes of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven still learning their trade, Man United want a proven top-flight centre-back to marshal their defence. This has prompted INEOS to identify Van de Ven as the ideal profile.

Their interest arrives at a complicated period for Tottenham. The Lilywhites are currently stranded at the bottom of the Premier League table after collecting just two points from their opening five matches. Despite the chaotic situation in N17, Van de Ven continues to stand out as one of our club’s most valuable assets.

Having handed him a lucrative new contract just a few months ago, the key decision-makers at White Hart Lane have no intention of entertaining any approaches for the Dutchman. We retain absolute leverage in any negotiations, so convincing the club’s hierarchy to do business for Van de Ven represents a daunting task for Man United.
