Tottenham have been linked with a striker currently plying his trade in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Tottenham Hotspur continue to face some problems from last season, despite spending close to £400million on transfers during the summer.
Spurs brought in Savio and Omar Marmoush to improve the productivity of their attack, although things haven’t improved thus far. Dominic Solanke continues to be anonymous in games as he still doesn’t appear fully fit. The England international has featured in every Premier League match so far this season and has yet to find the back of the net.
With the summer sale of Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough, the ongoing squad exile of Richarlison and Solanke struggling, the Lilywhites are planning to invest in a striker when the transfer window reopens in January.
Son Heung-min recommends compatriot for Tottenham move
Recent reports suggest that Tottenham are considering a winter move for Besiktas striker Oh Hyeon-gyu.
Oh Hyeon-gyu moved to Besiktas from Genk in February, and he has since registered nine goals and six assists in 29 appearances. The 25-year-old hasn’t enjoyed a blistering start to the 2026/27 season, though that hasn’t stopped Spurs from keeping tabs on him.
Now, according to a report from Turkish Football, South Korea and Tottenham great Son Heung-min has been recommending Oh a move to White Hart Lane. The veteran forward is playing a consulting role in endorsing his compatriot’s tactical suitability, noting his development and suitability for the Premier League’s physical demands.
Son Heung-min and Oh have been linking up well on international duty for South Korea. The duo were on the scoresheet in South Korea’s resounding 3-0 friendly victory over Ecuador. They were virtually quiet in the match against Uruguay, who registered a 4-1 win earlier this week.
Oh provides more than just goals for both South Korea and Besiktas. Standing at 6ft 1ins, he gives a physical presence through the middle while also offering the energy and pressing ability of a modern-day centre-forward. Moreover, his established relationship with Son adds a compelling narrative to Spurs’ scouting interest. The two talented players appear to share a brilliant personal relationship completely away from the football pitch.
Son seemingly recommending Oh for a move to N17 might tip the scales firmly in favour of the ambitious Tottenham side over other suitors. It is clear Sonny is acting as an unofficial agent for his compatriot, but with Besiktas having spent €14 million to secure his services from Genk in February, the Turkish giants will be extremely reluctant to sanction a mid-season departure for the centre-forward unless Tottenham come up with an appealing package.
