Tottenham target who has been in red-hot form in the PL this season suffers serious injury

Tottenham-linked Premier League forward suffers injury on international duty.

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed their most productive transfer window under Roberto De Zerbi. It was a record-breaking transfer window which overhauled the squad, with over £300 million spent on 10 major new players.

The Lilywhites were also keen on signing the highly-rated Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi during the summer transfer window. Kroupi was the North Londoners’ top striker target, until he suffered a major injury setback. He sustained a foot injury in training that led to surgery, ruling him out of action for three to four months.

Eventually, Spurs decided to sign Omar Marmoush on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Marmoush has looked busy in the games he has played, but he’s yet to open his account for Tottenham. The lack of goals from Marmoush and Dominic Solanke has led to discussions over investing in a striker in January.

Recent reports suggest Spurs have been keeping tabs on Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey. The stocky Dutchman scored a hat-trick, albeit in Sunderland’s 5-3 defeat to Manchester City before the international break, catching the attention of several clubs across the Premier League and Europe.

The centre-forward was called up to the Netherlands national team by new coach Xavi Hernandez for the UEFA Nations League games. Xavi started Brian Brobbey in the 1-1 draw against Germany in the UEFA Nations League. Unfortunately, he played only 35 minutes before an injury forced him off.

Mexx Meerdink came on to replace the Sunderland striker, who has been sent back home after suffering a hamstring injury. Now, Dutch doctor Cees-Rein van den Hoogenband has given a grim injury update on the 24-year-old. He claims Brobbey’s latest setback with the Netherlands is because of overload.

“Of course, it remains a contact sport. If something happens during a tackle, like with Cody, that’s all part of the game. But if you look at Brobbey, he has a very serious hamstring injury. That’s a typical example of overuse,” Cees-Rein van den Hoogenband told Sportnieuws.nl.

“The Premier League is already so tough with two matches a week, and then they throw in a Nations League period like this with four matches in two weeks. Incomprehensible.

“In my time as club doctor at PSV, I actually had it very easy. It has really become much tougher.”

Brobbey started all five Premier League matches for Sunderland this season before joining the national team squad. The Black Cats have been impressed with the centre-forward’s contributions and continue to maintain their stance of keeping him beyond the winter.

There is confidence the Netherlands international will remain at the Stadium of Light this season as he begins his rehab on a serious hamstring injury. However, that could change quickly if the ex-Ajax talent returns from injury strongly and reproduces the form that made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting young forwards last season.

From Spurs’ perspective, they will continue to monitor Brobbey and his recovery from injury.
