Tottenham are looking to add to their midfield unit in the winter transfer window.
During the summer, Tottenham Hotspur oversaw as extensive a rebuild as we have seen any side do in a single transfer window, with 10 new players arriving through the door and even more exiting.
One of the positions they strengthened was the midfield unit, with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes becoming a part of Roberto De Zerbi’s roster. Many expected Tonali and Fernandes to regularly start alongside each other in Spurs’ engine room. Neither player has really lived up to their price tag so far this season; instead, Roberto De Zerbi has had to rely on Rodrigo Bentancur to bring balance and calmness in the centre of the park.
It feels like De Zerbi still doesn’t know his strongest midfield set-up as we approach the end of the season’s first international break, and it is something that the Italian needs to fix very quickly, because if performances and results don’t improve, then his job will be in serious danger.
Rangers star attracting interest from Tottenham
Tottenham were reportedly interested in signing Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin earlier this year. The 25-year-old remains one of the most closely watched players in the Scottish Premiership following another strong campaign with Rangers and his involvement with Belgium at the 2026 World Cup.
The versatile midfielder notched 16 goal involvements for the Gers in all competitions last season, and is certain to remain a hugely influential figure for Derek McInnes’ side moving forward. Nicolas Raskin has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ibrox on several occasions in the last few years, but his exit is yet to come to fruition.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Raskin, as he is in no hurry to leave Rangers. He could exit in January if Spurs or any other interested parties meet the Scottish club’s £20million valuation, but the final decision will be on the player.
Besiktas are the most interested club in the midfielder’s services. The Turkish giants are preparing to reopen talks, having failed with both loan and permanent bids in the summer. Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Hull City have all been keeping tabs on him for the past 12 months, while Serie A sides Atalanta and Bologna, along with La Liga’s Real Betis, have shown interest.
The Belgian international has a contract at the Ibrox until 2028, so Rangers may currently view next summer as the best time to cash in on the player. However, for now, he is understood to be “happy” to see out the remainder of the season in Glasgow City. From Tottenham’s perspective, the club chiefs must continue to monitor Raskin’s performances and should they feel he’s worth £20million, they must pay it in January.
