Tottenham Hotspur prepare a record €130 million January bid for Atlético Madrid striker with a Barcelona release clause.
Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a sensational €130 million (£113 million) offer to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julian Alvarez in the upcoming January transfer window. According to reports from Transfer News Live on X via Spanish outlet El Nacional, the North London club is ready to smash its transfer record to secure the World Cup-winning Argentine attacker.
The ambitious proposal underlines Spurs’ intention to establish themselves among Europe’s elite by targeting marquee talent to lead their frontline.
To convince Alvarez to make the move to North London, Tottenham are reportedly structuring a unique contractual agreement. Spurs hope to tempt the Argentine forward by inserting a specialized release clause into his contract that would allow him to pursue a future transfer to FC Barcelona.
This strategic inclusion aims to overcome potential hesitation, giving Alvarez a clear pathway to join the Catalan giants later in his career while serving as Tottenham’s central attacking focal point in the immediate term.
De Zerbi Seeking World-Class Focal Point
Under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham have shown fluid possession play and high-intensity pressing but still need a prolific, elite striker to complete their attack. Alvarez possesses the tactical intelligence, relentless work ethic, and clinical edge that De Zerbi demands from a modern number nine.
Having already proven his quality in English football during his tenure at Manchester City before moving to Spain, Alvarez represents a ready-made superstar capable of elevating Tottenham’s offensive output across domestic and European competitions.
A financial package totaling €130 million would signal an unprecedented statement of intent from the Tottenham hierarchy. However, convincing Atlético Madrid to part ways with one of their prized assets mid-season presents a formidable challenge.
Diego Simeone considers Alvarez a cornerstone of his sporting project in Madrid, meaning Spurs will need to demonstrate unwavering commitment if they hope to complete what would be one of the most remarkable transfer deals in recent Premier League history.
