Tottenham are in the race to sign Oguzhan Ozyakup, a former Arsenal starlet, as they look to add more quality to their midfield next season. The 24-year-old prefers playing in the defensive midfielder’s role and can even play a little higher up the pitch, linking up with the attack.
Apparently, Pochettino is a big fan of the Turkish midfielder, who has been a key player for Besiktas this season and the Daily Star claims that £12 million would be enough to pry the player away from the Turkish club. The 24-year-old couldn’t break into the first team at Arsenal five years ago and has seen his progression at Besiktas go really well.
It isn’t just Tottenham who are tracking the combative midfielder with the report claiming that Italian giants AS Roma and La Liga’s Sevilla also keeping a tab on Ozyakup.
The Turkish star has played in 20 league games for his club and has surprisingly scored three goals and has provided three assists as well. The 24-year-old is known for his incredible passing range and also his ability to dribble and take on the opposition.
Even though he isn’t the best at tackling, he can play in a more creative role in the heart of the park and could be a good pairing with either Mousa Dembele or Victor Wanyama.
Ozyakup would certainly be a cheap and decent signing; he does know the English game and wouldn’t be as big as a risk as some of the other players being linked with the Lilywhites.
Mauricio Pochettino has to continue the good work he has done so far at White Hart Lane and Ozyakup could be the player that can get Tottenham playing at a more consistent level in the Champions League next season.
