Leicester City’s winger Riyad Mahrez could become an arrival for a London club at the start of next season according to The Telegraph.
The outlet reports that the 26-year-old Algerian was expected to leave last season’s champions in the summer but was convinced to stay on for another campaign by former manager Claudio Ranieri.
The report claims that the Premier League winner has an agreement, where he will be allowed to leave the club at the end of the season, should he want to do that.
Leicester have struggled to match their performances from last season and Mahrez hasn’t been at his fluent best. Mahrez only has 6 goals and 3 assists from 33 Premier League games and was rumoured to be on the wish list of Tottenham in the January window as well, according to the reports.
Mauricio Pochettino has been in the market for quality players, to add to his side and Mahrez could be a decent option to have next season. Arsenal were leading the chase for the £30million-rated winger and it will be interesting to see just which club he heads off to.
Spurs are in a better position at the moment than Arsenal and Pochettino does need a quality player who can start for the side out wide. The likes of Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko haven’t really done a lot for the side and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the pair is shipped out of the club in the summer.
Mahrez could sparkle at Tottenham thanks to their playing style. His presence would also take some of the pressure off Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to be the creative outlet for the London side.
The problem Spurs face is not only the price tag but also the fact that Mahrez didn’t have a great season this time around. However, when Mahrez plays at his best, there is no stopping him. With Pochettino at the helm, the Algerian could turn out to be a decent signing next season.
