Spurs look to lure Jonathan David to White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to acquire marquee number nine in the summer transfer window as the North Londoners pursue to fill a Harry Kane-shaped hole in the offensive line at White Hart Lane. A number of centre-forwards from around Europe have been linked with a move to the Premier League giants; however, none of the rumours have materialized into concrete interests yet.

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has backed his former employers to make a “big name” signing in the ongoing transfer window. He acknowledges the need to make a statement signing upfront, something the Lilywhites lacked in the recently concluded campaign where Ange Postecoglou‘s squad struggled to consistently find the net as first-choice striker Richarlison consistently served on the sidelines.

The North Londoners are in a battle to acquire LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David this summer transfer window as the Canadian star emerges as a prime target for their attacking overhaul, per Sky Sports News. Spurs will be facing competition from Manchester United to recruit his services.

The 24-year-old scored 27 goals in all competitions for the French giants last season, along with a tally of nine assists. This showcases his ability to not only provide clinical output on a consistent basis but also be a creative outlet upfront. However, while King backs Spurs to sign a striker, he insists that David is not the answer to Spurs woes in the striking role.

In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Bryan King said:

“He definitely has room to improve at TottenhamBut this isn’t a player whose supporters are going to be excited about signing. He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, but what did Lille win? Did his goals help them win the league or the French Cup? This is what supporters will be interested in.

“This is someone who will be on a recruitment list, but whether you bring him in is a different question. I think Tottenham need to be targeting a big-name player up front.”

There is an understanding of how excited the supporters will get for a singing; however, to suggest basing your transfer interest on whether it would get the fans excited could be why he is no longer working at Tottenham. The club should be looking to sign someone who can fit into Ange’s style of play and be a consistent outlet, regardless of whether it gets the supporters excited on social media.
