Aussie influx! Postecoglou adds former Mariners duo to Tottenham staff

Tottenham Hotspur gaffer Ange Postecoglou will be adding some Australian charm to his backroom staff at White Hart Lane next season as he will welcome former Central Coast Mariners duo Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo joining the North Londoners as assistant coaches.

Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo have success in the A-League on their CVs; both of them played an important role in the Mariners’ magnificent A-League resurgence as head coach and assistant coach, respectively.

The duo helped the Mariners win their first league title since 2013 following a 6-1 mauling of Manchester City’s sister club, Melbourne City, in the grand finale.

This earned them a move to Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. However, their time in Scotland didn’t last long, as Nick Montgomery was sacked after failing to record a top-half finish. His stint with Hibernian lasted for a mere eight months.

Postecoglou excited

In an official statement, the Tottenham boss indicated his excitement for welcoming his countrymen into his back room.

“Both Nick and Sergio have a wealth of coaching experience over a number of years,” Postecoglou said.

“They have already demonstrated a strong desire to both develop young talent and implement a football style that I believe will further strengthen the environment we have established. I’m looking forward to working with them.”

The duo will join Ryan Mason (assistant coach), Jedinak (assistant coach), and Rob Burch (first team goalkeeping coach) in Ange’s coaching staff, adding to Matt Wells promotion to senior assistant coach.

With the backroom team sorted, the club will now turn their heads to ensure they get marquee signings done early in the window so they can get running as soon as the pre-season starts. This will help the club integrate new players seamlessly into the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
