As per a report from Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have kept one eye open to monitor rumoured Manchester United and Manchester City target Jorginho. The Napoli midfielder has been one of the best performers in the Serie A this season and Daily Mail claims City are the front-runners to acquire his signature.
The report claims that Jorginho is valued at £53million, meaning if Tottenham are to beat the Manchester giants to sign him, they will have to break their transfer record. Davinson Sanchez’s arrival last summer saw Daniel Levy shell out a sum of £40million.
The Naples-based outfit have risen above expectations, enjoying a stellar Serie A campaign. They gave Juventus a run for their money in the build-up to winning the title but unfortunately, fell short towards the end. Nevertheless, that does not undermine their hard work and in all their success, Jorginho has played a crucial role.
Despite being a defensive midfielder by trade, Jorginho has managed to score 2 goals and provide 4 assists, along with creating 44 chances in 29 Serie A appearances. These numbers are truly spectacular for a defence-oriented midfielder and he could add immense value to Spurs.
At present, Tottenham have thrived on the partnership established by Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier but with uncertainty surrounding Dembele’s future, it would be a wise move to bring in a player like Jorginho. Harry Winks is yet to return after his terrible injury and Mauricio Pochettino must aim to boost squad depth.
That said, it remains to be seen if Tottenham can compete with the financial powers of the Manchester-based outfits.
