Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from the club since the end of last season and the latest update sees a price tag being put on the 29-year-old defender.

Alderweireld was on show during the World Cup as Belgium were knocked out in the semi-final by France and Yahoo Sport (h/t Express) claims that the former Ajax defender will be allowed to join Manchester United for the right price.

The defender can leave the club for around £60m and the report also claims that United tried to sign the defender before the start of the World Cup.

As reported earlier, Tottenham had wanted around £75m for the defender but his representatives seem to have worked around the fact that they want the future of the player resolved before the transfer deadline, 9th August.

Alderweireld has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since moving to Tottenham and has really grown under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, his contract issue has been a problem for us and clearing it up might give us some funds to sign new players.

Alderweireld didn’t play too many games for us last season as he did spend some time out injured. The one issue that does hit is the fact that he would end up joining a direct rival, something that Mousa Dembele is not keen to do.

Selling him might give us some cash and if Alderweireld’s move to United does not bite us later on, then it might be a deal we can go ahead with.
