Spurs transfer news: Man United and Roma could still bid for Alderweireld

Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express) claims that Manchester United and Roma are still interested in Toby Alderweireld.

The Tottenham defender has just one year left on his current deal and recently saw a £25m release clause in his contract expire (h/t Express).

The 30-year-old could leave Tottenham for free at the end of the next season but the report claims that a similar bid to his release clause could be considered by Tottenham.

United and Roma are contemplating bidding for Alderweireld before the transfer window shuts (h/t Express).

Spurs should not look to sell Alderweireld now

Losing Alderweireld for £25m would have been a blow earlier in the window but we had time to find a decent replacement.

It would be a little crazy to sell the Belgian for a similar amount now, and Mauricio Pochettino would have just less than two weeks to land a quality replacement.

Alderweireld is one of the best in the Premier League and it would be great if he signs a contract extension with the club.

The Belgian has formed a fantastic partnership with Jan Vertonghen in recent seasons, but we have Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, who do the job in the heart of the defence.

Alderweireld would also be in line to earn a huge signing-on fee should his contract expire, and it will be interesting to see what his plans could be in the coming months.
