Jose Mourinho keen for training to resume if safety is assured
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is in favour of a return to training if it is considered safe to do so.
The 57-year-old expressed his opinion in the meeting between Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, director of football Richard Garlick and all the 20 club managers on Zoom today.
Medical advisor Mark Gillett and government medical experts were also involved as a potential return to action was discussed.
Managers are keen to ensure they received four weeks of training prior to the league’s resumption. Provided safety is guaranteed, Mourinho is set on not having any further delays. According to the report, the Spurs boss was the major proponent of the view.
The Premier League is hoping to resume action on June 12. This will mean that the training will have to start this month itself. It remains to be seen if the dates are feasible, with a number of players expressing concerns.
Tottenham are currently 8th in the table with nine games to go. The Lilywhites have endured a disappointing season and look likely to finish outside the top four.
With the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Moussa Sissoko and Steven Bergwijn all set to return, Spurs can have one last go at trying to break into the top four. Whether it can be achieved or not remains to be seen.
