Football financial expert tips Tottenham Hotspur to lose big as football is set to return with empty stadiums

According to Football.london, football finance expert Kieran Maguire has revealed that Tottenham will be among the biggest losers with Premier League matches set to be held behind closed doors.

Premier League could be set for a return with Project Restart unbending to resume the 2019/20 season in mid-June. However, certain restrictions will be made including that of fans being allowed into stadiums.

According to the report, such restrictions could be in place until a vaccine is found and distributed. With the vaccine months away at best, we face the prospect of having to make do with empty stadiums for the foreseeable future.

It will also have a profound effect on club finances that have already started to feel the pinch due to the shutdown. Matchday revenue is a major source of income and this coupled with the loss of funds from hosting other events, Tottenham will be among the clubs worst hit.

As per Maguire’s estimations, only Manchester United stand to lose more than Tottenham if such a situation comes to pass.

” I think Manchester United and Spurs would be the two biggest losers there.”

Although the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium can host a variety of events, with social distancing in place, the club does not stand to gain financially in spite of the facilities on offer.

Spurs are also bracing for the loss of a pair of NFL games that are due to be played at the new stadium. The release of next season’s NFL fixture list is expected to confirm the same, in a setback that will cost the club in excess of £4million.

With the £637million debt of the stadium still to be repaid, the club’s position is not at all enviable.
