Tottenham monitoring highly-rated Championship defender set to be a free agent soon
Tottenham monitoring West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson
According to a report from Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson, who is also a target for Crystal Palace and a host of Bundesliga clubs.
The 19-year-old Ferguson is a versatile defender who can operate at centre-back or as a full-back on either flank. A product of the West Brom academy, he has been with the club since 2009. He made his first-team debut for the Baggies in August last year and has since gone on to feature 21 times this term, scoring and assisting one goal each.
A highly-rated prospect, Ferguson is out of contract with the Championship outfit at the end of the season. This has led to a flurry of interest from a number of clubs within England and Europe. (h/t Football.london)
The report states that Tottenham are one of the many clubs monitoring the defender’s situation. However, it also goes on to claim that fellow London outfit Crystal Palace are the favourites to sign him once his deal expires. (h/t Football.london)
It must be noted that Palace had made an attempt to land the 19-year-old defender back in January, but a move had not materialized. However, having laid the ground work for the deal back then itself, they remain in pole position to land the youngster. (h/t Football.london)
Given the urgent need of defenders in our squad heading into the next season, signing someone like Ferguson would have been a good move. The teenager would have been able to provide cover in all positions in defence. At the same time, he wouldn’t have cost us anything in transfer fees, with his deal expiring.

However, Palace seem set to seal his transfer come summer. But there is still some time for Tottenham to make a late swoop to try and convince him to change his mind. Never say never in football.
