Tottenham interested in Crystal Palace starlet Tyrick Mitchell

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace’s 20-year-old defender Tyrick Mitchell.

Mitchell, a left-back, moved to the Crystal Palace youth setup in 2016, having spent time at Brentford prior to that.

Held in high regard within the club, the youngster was first caught the eye during the pre-season tour of Switzerland. As per the report, his performances during the tour earned him comparisons to another Palace academy graduate, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who left the club for Manchester United last summer.

While Mitchell is yet to make his first-team debut for Crystal Palace, the youngster has been named on the bench four times so far this season by manager Roy Hodgson. The report adds that the left-back is effective at both ends of the pitch and possesses great speed and energy.

Mitchell signed a new contract with the Eagles in January 2019, but Spurs are now considering the possibility of making a swoop for him and offer him a chance to continue his development at our club. (h/t The Athletic)

Currently, Spurs have Ben Davies as the primary left-back option. Danny Rose was loaned out in January and the club are open to cashing in on him this summer. Ryan Sessegnon is another alternative, but manager Jose Mourinho has tended to use him in a more attacking capacity.

So, bringing in a new left-back to provide cover for Davies this summer would be a good move.

The 20-year-old Mitchell, to that end, could be a viable option for the club as he is unlikely to cost a great deal, In addition, given his age, there is room for improvement and development.
