Paul Merson believes Jose Mourinho can lead Tottenham to PL title
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Arsenal star Paul Merson has admitted that Jose Mourinho has what it takes to lead Tottenham Hotspur to the Premier League title this season.
Tottenham, after the opening day defeat to Everton, have recovered very strongly in the Premier League. Following the Lilywhites’ 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion this past weekend, Tottenham currently sit second in the league standings. With 16 points from eight games, Spurs just a point below leaders Leicester City.
And Merson, who had taken a few shots at Mourinho upon his appointment at Tottenham, has now claimed that the Portuguese can guide Spurs to the title this season. (h/t Sky Sports)
“Can Spurs go on and win the title? It’s not impossible and that’s because they’ve got a serial winner as a manager. They’ve got a chance because Mourinho is in charge and has won it before. He knows what it takes to get over the line.”
The Arsenal legend then went on to add that Spurs’ positive start to the season can be a good omen, considering how Mourinho’s title-winning sides in the past have begun their respective campaigns. (h/t Sky Sports)
“When Mourinho won the title at Chelsea, they always got off to a flyer. He’s the only manager I know who treats every game like it is the last of the season. Every point mounts up and Mourinho always flies out of the stalls in a title-winning year.”

Mourinho has won league titles everywhere he has been, barring Manchester United. And he has turned things around at Tottenham, having taken over at a difficult moment last year. As far as talks of the title are concerned, we’re just eight games into the campaign. There’s plenty of time left, but the start has surely been impressive.
