Rumours had been doing the rounds since Tuesday afternoon that the game was in jeopardy. Earlier today, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho took to social media to mock the Premier League over the lack of clarity over the situation. He wrote: “Match at 6 pm… We still don’t know if we play. Best league in the world.”

However, the Tottenham manager has received confirmation on the status of the match with it being called off now due to the outbreak.

This becomes the second Premier League game to be called off in a matter of days after we saw Manchester City’s clash against Everton got postponed due to increased positive cases in the former’s squad.

Sheffield United and Newcastle United have also struggled to control the virus in recent weeks. The Premier League revealed that 18 out of the 1479 tests carried out this week had come out positive – which is the largest number since Project Restart.

With the recent uprise in numbers, talks of a break in the league had been doing the rounds. However, that has been ruled out by the Premier League. It remains to be seen how the situation is handled, but for now, Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Fulham stands postponed.
