Erik Lamela goal vs Arsenal hailed as one of the best ever by Jamie Redknapp

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail), former footballer turned pundit, Jamie Redknapp has hailed Tottenham Hotspur’s opener against Arsenal scored by Erik Lamela as one of the best goals he has ever seen in the Premier League.

Lamela wasn’t actually part of the Tottenham starting XI vs Arsenal on Sunday. However, an injury to Son Heung-min very early into the game meant Jose Mourinho had to call on the Argentine international to take Son’s place.

And Lamela made his chance count, as he put Tottenham in front with an audacious rabona flick from inside the box through the legs of an Arsenal player, sending fans into a tizzy.

And Redknapp, who was left in awe of the Argentine’s strike on Sunday, has called it as one of the best ever Premier League goals he has seen.

“This is one of the best goals I’ve seen in the Premier League. We’ve seen 30 yarders, great volleys, great team goals but never seen anything like this. He did it in a Europa League game a few years back but the audacity to do it in a North London derby.

“The improvisation there as it comes behind him, the rabona as they call it, it’s absolute world-class.  It’s an amazing piece of skill because as it comes to him he has to work his feet, he knows it has to go low, it goes through Partey’s legs, he hits it so hard. Look at the power he puts into it, brilliant.”

Unfortunately for Lamela, the evening did not end on a happy note. The Argentine was booked for a reckless challenge on Thomas Partey in the second half and soon received his second yellow card as his flailing arm caught Kieran Tierney in the face.

This meant Tottenham had to play with ten men for the last 15 minutes which hampered our efforts to make a comeback as Arsenal won 2-1.
