Transfer News: Tottenham learn the asking price for Rico Browne

According to the latest news from Football Insider, Tottenham have been told to shell out a transfer fee in excess of £1m if they wish to sign Birmingham City youngster Rico Browne.

Browne, 17, came through the youth ranks at Birmingham City and broke into the club’s U-18 team this season. The young centre-back has made three appearances in the FA Youth Cup and has earned plaudits for his displays.

Browne’s performances, despite him featuring just thrice, have attracted the interest of a host of Premier League clubs. Tottenham, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion are battling for the transfer of Browne in the summer.

It had earlier been reported that Birmingham City had granted Browne permission to go for a trial at West Ham United. It was also claimed that Tottenham had already tabled an eighteen-month contract for the 17-year-old after he had spent time on trial at the club in January. (h/t Football Insider)

Browne is back at the club after his trial, but his future is now in limbo as Birmingham have now increased their asking price for the starlet. The Blues’ are said to be demanding a fee in excess of £1m including bonuses. And, this has seemingly put off young Browne’s suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur.
