Paul Merson: Tottenham star Harry Kane the best striker in the world

According to the Daily Mail, former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane is the best centre-forward in the world.

Merson’s comments came after Kane scored from the penalty spot as Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-0 at the Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday night. The result saw Spurs move to sixth place, just three points below Chelsea in fourth, to keep the hopes of a top-four finish alive.

It was Kane’s 17th Premier League goal of the season taking him level with Mohamed Salah at the top of the scoring charts for the season. Across all competitions, the England captain has plundered 27 goals and created 16 more from 40 games.

And, Merson, who had questioned whether Kane would be able to succeed under Jose Mourinho upon the Portuguese’s appointment, has claimed that the Tottenham superstar is the best striker in the game due to his all-round abilities.

“He’s got an all-round game and I personally think he’s the best centre-forward in the world, he’s the only player I know who has got the whole package.”

The former Arsenal midfielder then went on to dismiss parallels drawn with Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, insisting that Kane can do so much more on the football field.

“People will go ‘oh (Erling) Haaland, he’s 20, he scores goals, that’s what he brings to the party’. Kane brings everything to the party. He’s got an array of passing, he can put people in, he can join the play. I can’t talk highly enough of the lad, I really can’t, he’s a special, special player.”
