Tottenham Transfer News: Jose Mourinho could finally get Jerome Boateng

According to transfer news from Mirror, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho could finally land long time target Jerome Boateng. The Bavarian club are not willing to extend his contract beyond this season and he will leave as a free agent.

Spurs have not performed well defensively in the recent games. Their fragilities came to the fore against Dinamo Zagreb which resulted in elimination from the Europa League. Last weekend, we witnessed another such instance with Newcastle snatching two goals only for Kane to pull off the rescue act.

Davinson Sanchez was hugely at fault for the goals. Even Toby Alderweireld hardly looks like the quality defender he was once. Joe Rodon is a decent young pick but he will need time to get used to the rigours of the Premier League.

Jerome Boateng has been immense for Bayern Munich over the years

Nonetheless, Jose Mourinho could get his hands on a long admired player in the summer and that too for free. The Portuguese chased Jerome Boateng during his Manchester United days only for him to be rebuffed in his approach.

However, Boateng is all set to leave Bayern after a decade. Hasan Salihamidzic, their sporting director, confirmed that the player would be leaving the club after mutual discussions.

“That was a joint decision of the club’s management and the coach was also involved in it. I explained it to Jerome, and he was very understanding.”

Boateng may not be the same defender he was once but he does represent a quality option. Let’s not forget it would be a free transfer and Spurs would have very little to lose from the deal. A short-term deal for the player could be a decent bit of investment from the club.
