Transfer News: Manchester United open to exchange deal for Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane

A report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express] claims that Manchester United are open to a ‘part-exchange deal’ for the Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane.

Kane is reportedly wanting to leave the club in case they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season. And Manchester United is one name regularly linked with the Englishman.

The Red Devils want a striker in the summer transfer window. Anthony Martial is not scoring regularly while Edinson Cavani’s future remains up in the air.

And amid this, they have made Harry Kane and Erling Haaland their transfer targets. The latter is still their priority, however, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a reunion with the Norwegian striker. (h/t Express)

Not the best deal for Spurs

But the report adds that United are willing to bring in Kane if a deal is agreed with Tottenham which sees players head the opposite way. If they do have to sell, Spurs would ideally want to offload the 27-year-old to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

However, Kane would himself want to stay in England. And United could be a potential destination for the England international. (h/t Express)

It is hard to think which United player would strengthen Spurs to the extent that Jose Mourinho does not feel the void of Kane leaving. It would be wiser to go out and buy a top-class striker instead.

That, of course, is only a hypothetical situation as of now and in the best-case scenario for the club, they finish in 4th and keep Kane for next season.

But failure to win the Carabao Cup final and not making top 4 could really dent the club’s chances if they want to keep a hold of their greatest goal-scorer in modern times.
