Tottenham sponsors Dulux issue apology after mocking club on social media
As reported by Sky News, Dulux have issued an apology after making fun of Tottenham Hotspur on social media on Thursday immediately after being named their new sponsor.
The paint brand was named Tottenham Hotspur’s latest sponsor, announcing its partnership with the club on social media. However, soon after, there were some posts made that were in bad taste and mocked the north London giants.
It’s the perfect match – Dulux has become the first ever Official Paint Supplier to football giant Tottenham Hotspur!

Dulux uses an English sheepdog in its commercials and shared pictures of the same while promoting the partnership. But things took a turn for the worse when the paint suppliers replied to a comment by a fan asking whether the dog could play at centre-back saying: “He might do a better job”.
There was another fan response wherein an empty trophy cabinet was shown with the comment asking whether it would be repainted. To that, Dulux replied saying that surfaces need to ‘dust free’ before being painted, taking a dig at Tottenham’s lack of silverware.
The responses were quickly taken down but not quick enough before rival fans had jumped in on the action. Having deleted the comments, Dulux issued an apology to the club as well as the fans, while reasserting that they were proud of the association with Tottenham.
We’re deeply sorry for the posts from Dulux this morning in response to the announcement of our relationship with @SpursOfficial.These do not reflect how proud we are to be the Official Paint Supplier of the Club. We’re investigating what happened and apologise to all Spurs fans.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho was asked about his views on the entire incident. But the Portuguese downplayed the whole episode as nothing more than a PR stunt. (h/t Independent)
“I don’t know what you are speaking about but maybe it is an amazing strategy move. But in any case, it is not a football-related thing and I don’t know.”

The comments, made soon after the partnership was announced, did not paint the club nor Dulux in good light. Hopefully, the team can draw the attention away from all this with a good performance against Everton.
