Transfer News: Tottenham to battle PL rivals for Nikola Milenkovic
According to transfer news from Italian publication Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out with a number of their Premier League clubs for the signing of Nikola Milenkovic in the summer.
Milenkovic has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A since making the switch to Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade back in 2017. However, the Serbian international sees his contract expire with the Viola at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and has no intention of signing an extension, forcing the club to cash in this summer. A number of clubs have taken an interest in the towering centre-back’s situation with Tottenham Hotspur being one among them. Heading into the new season, Spurs have a major rebuilding job on their hands, especially in defence.
Eric Dier has faded badly over the course of the season and was poor in our defeat to Leeds United on Saturday. Toby Alderweireld isn’t getting any younger and will eventually need to be replaced whereas Davinson Sanchez has been consistently inconsistent, true to his style throughout his time at the club.
Joe Rodon did impress towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign but hasn’t been favoured by interim boss Ryan Mason. As things stand, we will need to bring in a new centre-half and we could do a lot worse than Milenkovic, who could be available for a transfer fee of €30m.
However, Tottenham will have to face competition from the likes of Everton, West Ham United, Manchester United from the Premier League while Serie A giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are also keen on the 23-year-old. (h/t Calciomercato)

While a move for Milenkovic would be a step in the right direction, the intense competition for his signing means we could very well miss out on him. Hopefully, that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
