Tottenham Hotspur interested in £17.2m-rated 25-year-old Turkish international

Transfer News: Tottenham interested in signing Ugurcan Cakir

According to transfer news from Turkish outlet NTV Spor (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the signing of Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir from Trabzonspor in the summer.

A product of the Trabzonspor youth academy, Cakir has been a regular member of the first-team since a short loan stint away at 1461 Trabzon. Till date, he has made 116 appearances, in which he has kept 27  clean sheets and has grown into the club captain. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Tottenham are in the market for a new goalkeeper given as captain Hugo Lloris is in the final leg of his illustrious career. Indeed, the Frenchman will soon turn 35 years old and is entering the final year of his contract as well. With Joe Hart not a viable option for the first-choice spot and Paulo Gazzaniga not in the plans either, a new goalkeeper is a need of the hour in the summer.

To that end, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson. However, Cakir is seen as someone who will be a cheaper alternative for the England international.

Indeed, as per the report, Trabzonspor are looking for a transfer fee of around £17.2m for their club captain, making him a viable target for Tottenham Hotspur. The club president has claimed that the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave in the summer but interested parties will need to meet their valuation.

“He is arguably the best goalkeeper in Turkey. He needs to go to the best club that pays the most. No player steps out of the door of Trabzonspor Club without finding his value.”

Cakir, at 25, is a promising young goalkeeper with a good level of experience as well. A move for him at the aforementioned transfer fee could, thus, be something that Tottenham should look to explore.
