Paulo Fonseca in talks over a three-year contract with Tottenham

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Paulo Fonseca over the vacant managerial role, with the Portuguese in line to replace Jose Mourinho as the next permanent head coach.

Tottenham have been without a manager for well over a month now, having sacked Mourinho towards the end of April. Ryan Mason saw through the 2020/21 campaign as Daniel Levy & co. looked for a permanent replacement for the former Chelsea boss.

Tottenham had eyed several managers including the likes of Erik ten Hag, Hansi Flick, even former boss Mauricio Pochettino for the role. Antonio Conte also emerged as a front-runner for the job briefly only for negotiations to break down. (h/t Evening Standard)

And, it now seems like Tottenham may have finally found their man in Paulo Fonseca. The 48-year-old is freshly out of a job after resigning from AS Roma, where he is being replaced by Mourinho.

Prior to that, Fonseca had managed Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk and had done a fine job, winning three successive league and cup doubles. Before that, he tasted success with SC Braga in Portugal and has managed FC Porto as well.

It is being claimed that Fonseca is the first-choice manager of incoming Tottenham Director of Football, Fabio Paratici. The Italian left his post at Juventus at the end of the 2020/21 season and will imminently be named as the sporting director at Spurs. And, he has been the driving force behind the club’s pursuit of Fonseca.
