Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur told Merih Demiral price tag but expect Everton tussle

As per a report by Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Merih Demiral, who could be sold by Juventus to raise transfer funds in the summer.

Spurs’ links with the Turkish defender come at a time where they are still to appoint a new permanent manager. However, Daniel Levy has given the club some stability by hiring former Juventus man, Fabio Paratici, as the Director of Football.

And Demiral, who currently plies his trade at Paratici’s ex-club, is not happy with being their fourth-choice centre-back. He has three years left on his contract and Spurs would have to meet the £34.4million asking price to get Juventus to sell him.

They could also face competition from Everton for the 23-year-old. The Toffees are suggested to be in a potential deal for Demiral that involves striker Moise Kean going the other way.

Spurs want Demiral

Spurs could use a stellar option in defence to add alongside Toby Alderweireld. Eric Dier currently occupies that role with Davinson Sanchez also get his fair share of minutes.

This summer has also seen a rise in Joe Rodon’s stocks as he impressed for Wales at Euros 2020. The Welshman was a regular feature in Wales’ defence at Euro 2020 and featured in the 2-0 win for his team against Demiral’s Turkey.

Rodon was perhaps one of the few players that had a decent game for Wales in their 4-0 last-16 loss to Denmark on Saturday. Apart from the former Swansea City man, Spurs also have Japhet Tanganga.

If Demiral does come to N17, it would be interesting to see where he lies in this pecking order but that could also depend on the manager that Spurs hire over the summer.
