Transfer News: Tottenham confident of landing Nikola Milenkovic
Milenkovic has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A since making the switch to Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade back in 2017. However, the Serbian international sees his contract expire with the Viola at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and has no intention of signing an extension, forcing the club to cash in this summer. A number of clubs have taken an interest in the towering centre-back’s situation with Tottenham Hotspur being one among them. Heading into the new season, Spurs have a major rebuilding job on their hands, especially in defence.
Eric Dier faded badly over the course of the 2020/21 season. Toby Alderweireld isn’t getting any younger and will eventually need to be replaced whereas Davinson Sanchez has been consistently inconsistent, true to his style throughout his time at the club.
To that end, new manager Nuno Espirito Santo and director Fabio Paratici are looking at potentially signing two central defenders this summer, with Milenkovic among the targets owing to his contract situation which would make him available for a cut-price fee. (h/t Express)
Tottenham, though, have seen a bid for the Serbian international get knocked back by the Serie A outfit. In spite of that, the report claims that the Lilywhites remain confident of signing the 23-year-old this summer.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is another target for Tottenham, with the Bologna defender said to be closing in on a switch to the club. It remains to be seen if the club’s pursuit of Milenkovic also yields the desired result. An intriguing summer awaits.
