Transfer News: Nikola Milenkovic hints that he rejected offers from Tottenham

According to transfer news from Football.london, Nikola Milenkovic hinted that he rejected offers from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur. The Fiorentina defender has now put ink on a contract extension at the club till 2023. He added that leaving the club was never in question.

Spurs were seemingly after a new defender from Serie A as Fabio Paratici was once again hoping to repeat the magic he showed with signing Christian Romero and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini. After all, the Serbian had become such a vital player for Fiorentina after his move from Partizan back in 2016.

However, Paratici seems to have been handed a blow in this regard as Milenkovic chose not to leave the club despite some level of interest from Spurs and West Ham. Instead, he has now signed a one-year contract extension with the club that will keep him there until at least 2023. The defender even spoke about the issue.

From what he said, it was clear that offers from Spurs were there but it was rejected as he wanted to remain at the club.

“I am very happy and proud to have renewed my contract with Fiorentina. I have never asked to leave. There have been very high offers from clubs of the highest European level [including Tottenham and West Ham] but I have never asked the management to be sold.”

Spurs fans might feel like this was a missed opportunity and it somewhat is. Being able to land a talented and young defender could have helped the club so much. The 23-year-old could have been a worthy partner to the new boy Romero and Spurs would have had a sturdy backline roster once again which took a hit when Toby Alderweireld left.
