Tottenham Hotspur target Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca as alternative to Fiorentina ace Dusan Vlahovic
According to the Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have shortlisted Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca as an alternative transfer target to Fiorentina ace Dusan Vlahovic. He has earned the nickname of the “Italian Zlatan Ibrahimovic” a s he rose through the youth ranks over the years.
Spurs are looking at options to add more competition in the striker department, as Harry Kane continues to struggle this season. Vlahovic is the primary target but the realistic chances of a transfer are humble due to the increased competition for his services.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t The Express), Juventus are also in the race for the Italian forward and could pose a threat to Tottenham. However, the former could only facilitate a loan deal unless they raise money early in the January transfer window.
The North London club is at an advantage because of it and could get the 22-year-old’s signature for a fee between £16.9million and £21.2million. His club is willing to entertain offers around that value, and that would put Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici on red alert.
Sensible transfer?
Scamacca has featured in 17 matches this season and has scored five goals in that process. That is not really as good as the output of the Serb striker who has been sensational in Serie A this season. But we must keep in mind that the Sassuolo starlet has started just eight games and is only breaking into the team. Moreover, goals aren’t really the only metric to judge a striker by.
The Italian centre-forward is known for his versatility with the ability to play in multiple positions and systems, which could be helpful for Antonio Conte. Not to mention his aggressiveness would match the passion that Conte is infamous for on the touchline. And at 22, he is at an optimal age profile considering he can be a valuable asset for the club in the short, as well as the long term.
We are lacking in terms of attacking options and need reinforcements to help us challenge for titles. We clearly need wingers and strikers, which makes the possibility of signing the I Neroverdi attacker even more intriguing. Should we sign him, we would have cover in multiple positions and the financial hit would not be very severe as well.

It’s not like we don’t possess quality players in our starting XI. But the issue is the depth in these areas, with not many players capable enough to cover for, or compete with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the starting lineup.
Since he is still in the developmental phase, the Tottenham coach could mould him into becoming a fine striker in the future. The Spurs boss has already done it at Inter Milan with Lautaro Martinez, who is now one of the most lethal forwards in the continent. Only time will tell, though, where he would end up as the transfer window draws close.
