Antonio Conte praised this Tottenham Hotspur trio following the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were engaged in a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Premier League as Antonio Conte praised three players in particular for their displays following the game. The visitors were heavy favourites coming into the clash, but it was the hosts who should have got all three points.

The Reds started the game with all guns blazing, but Spurs grew into the match after the early pressure. The latter took the lead through Harry Kane following a brilliant pass from Tanguy Ndombele. Diogo Jota levelled the scoring, and Andy Robertson put them in front in the second half. Son Heung-Min scored the last goal of the match, but his team would have rued not taking their chances.

Speaking in the post-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Conte was delighted with the performances of England internationals Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Ryan Sessegnon in this match. He mentioned how they have shown improvements and have to keep doing it moving forward.

Conte praised this Tottenham trio following the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
Harry Winks was arguably the best player against Liverpool.

“Harry Winks is working very hard. When we play in this way, with this formation, with a number four in front of the three central defenders, I think he’s very, very good. Good performance from him and Dele played a good game. Also, Dele, if we play with a 3-5-2, he’s a midfielder that is good physically, strong physically, good technique, good penetration because he has the right ability to attack. Also Sessegnon. I know that if we want to improve, if we want to improve our level, I need to improve every single player that we have.”

Stepping stone?

It is good to see how the fringe players showed their worth yesterday and stepped up when needed. The manager’s words would have been a massive boost for them, and they would try to use that moving forward. They have to keep doing it with more consistency to gain a foothold in the team.

We were proud to see how the team played against a title favourite, especially considering how we endured several challenges coming into this fixture. We had lost our momentum, match sharpness and some players because of the Covid outbreak.

Dele Alli could have given us three points but he had an impressive showing.

The players backed themselves and stepped up to face the challenge head-on, and we were arguably the better team on the night. While we would be disappointed not to have won the match, the display would have been something to build on in the future.

Once we navigate through this busy festive period and with the 52-year-old coach having more time to shape the team, we could seriously end the season exceptionally. Until then, we should compose ourselves and take it on a game by game basis.

Another positive from the game was seeing all the big names feature for us on the night. It seems we are back to full strength and that can only help us moving forward.
