Antonio Conte believes Hugo Lloris will stay at Tottenham Hotspur amidst potential contract expiry

Antonio Conte has expressed that he thinks Hugo Lloris will stay at Tottenham Hotspur and reach an agreement to sign a new contract ahead of next summer. There is some uncertainty surrounding the Spurs captain’s future due to the circumstances regarding his current deal.

The Frenchman will see his contract expire at the end of the current season, and he could leave next summer as a free agent if he wants to. That means he could also legally sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January if he has already decided to leave the club.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Daily Mail Online), Conte was confident that Lloris would sign a new deal in the coming months and extend his stay at N17. He added that the goalkeeper’s love for the club would be enough of a reason for him to reach an agreement.

“Hugo is a Tottenham player, he’s the captain. For sure he will talk with the club to try to find a solution. I think so. I think Hugo wants to stay in his club, he loves the club, he stays well in Tottenham. This could be his opinion.”

Lloris to sign extension?

The 35-year-old is linked with a transfer to Nice, and he is apparently interested in a return to his childhood club. That is bound to cause concerns amongst our fanbase as he is rock-solid in goal and one of the most consistent performers for us on the pitch.

Pierluigi Gollini was brought from Atalanta on loan this summer but there are still doubts whether he could handle the daunting task of replacing the club captain. While he has been decent when played, it is still not enough to make an assessment on whether he is reliable to depend on moving forward.

We have other areas in our squad that need reinforcements, and we should not have to deal with a situation where the World Cup winner would leave for elsewhere. That would add to the list of potential problems, and so, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy should make sure that the Frenchman signs an extension with us- even if it turns out to be a short-term deal.

The Spurs superstar has saved us countless times in recent games and is partly responsible for our good form under the former Inter Milan manager. As such, we should ensure that we keep him at N17, at least until we find a long-term replacement for him.

He is an important player for the France national team as well and those who have followed his career in the past 10 years or so understand that he has been consistent and reliable. Hopefully, the matter is resolved soon and we can be relaxed about the future of our captain.
