Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur in contact with Hellas Verona for Antonin Barak

According to the transfer journalist Nicolo Schira on Twitter (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Hellas Verona to discuss a potential transfer for Antonin Barak. He has been sensational this season, and his displays have contributed to his side’s success in the Italian top flight this season.

Tottenham are already engaged in negotiations with Verona for the 27-year-old. The Italian side is open to selling the Czech international despite only having signed him last summer. The Verona president is willing to part ways with Barak if Spurs meet the asking price of €20million for his services.

With not many days left in the ongoing January transfer window, Spurs face a race against time to get the deal over the line. They have not signed anyone for the first team this month despite Antonio Conte’s call for reinforcements.

Who is Antonin Barak?

The Czech Republic star is an attacking midfielder who is versatile enough to play in several positions. He can be deployed as a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder or a centre forward when needed.

The 27-year-old stands at an impressive 190cms tall and has a knack for winning aerial duels. He also possesses the skills to hold up play and can do a job with the ball at his feet. Barak can also link up well with his teammates and has a keen eye for goals.

The Serie A star has made19 appearances in the league this campaign, scoring eight goals and assisting four more in the same time. Barak has played a crucial role in Verona currently occupying the ninth spot in the Italian top flight.

The Czech midfielder would be a fine addition to our team plus the price tag seems reasonable considering his form and age profile. Moreover, he could be just what we need to replace Dele Alli since the latter has failed to find his feet even under Antonio Conte.

Alli showed great promise early in his career at N17 but his form has fallen off a cliff in the past few years resulting in him looking a shadow of himself. With Alli’s time at the club more or less done, it is imperative that we rebuild with the right names coming in. Whether Barak will be a part of it or not remains to be seen.
