Antonio Conte opens up on Tottenham Hotspur approach in the FA Cup fourth round vs Brighton

Speaking in an interview with Spurs TV (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), Antonio Conte has given an insight into the approach that Tottenham Hotspur will take when they face off against Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round. He also conveyed his expectations about the challenge that the Seagulls would pose in the match later today.

Spurs will be looking to use the FA Cup as a means to put an end to their long-standing title drought. It would not be easy, though, as they would need to overcome Brighton and Hove Albion, who have fared really well under Graham Potter despite their limitations.

Conte pointed out how the Seagulls have done well in the Premier League so far to explain the threat his side faces in the cup tie. He added that Tottenham will not underestimate their opponents and will be up for the fight.

“They are a good team, if you look at the table, they are almost in the same position. That means Brighton have good players, they play well, they have a good manager. We have to be ready to fight and to know that it won’t be easy to go into the next round. For sure, we want to win this game.”

Win at all costs

Spurs endured a difficult January as they lost thrice to Chelsea in the league and Carabao Cup semi-finals. Having dipped into the winter transfer market and also having received a rest, Tottenham are now in a better position to put past disappointments behind them and end the season on the front foot.

A win would give us much needed momentum, which could prove to be the difference-maker in the games to come. We have a total of six games that need to be played in quick succession and starting off the win with a win will give us good morale to build on.

Graham Potter has done a great job at Brighton as they continue to punch above their weight to ninth place in the league table. They have a good crop of players, like Yves Bissouma and Tariq Lamptey, who have continued to excel all season.

The North London side must pay heed to the 52-year-old coach’s words and not let their foot off the gas. As Manchester United found out against Middlesbrough, reputation and standing matter for little in a one-off knockout tie.
