Manager Antonio Conte wants to show striker Harry Kane that he can win trophies at Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League fixture against Burnley later tonight (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte hinted that he probably only has three months to convince forward Harry Kane to fulfil his ambitions at the club.

The English striker recently spoke about his ambitions to break PL legend Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record, saying it was an achievement he wanted to match and believed he could do it by the end of his career.

Conte admitted that Kane could well be on his way to break the record, but reminded the world-class striker that winning trophies is as important as matching personal achievements.

“Harry is a player with great ambition and it must be this way because we are talking about a world-class striker. Records are important but, at the same time, it’s also important to lift trophies.”

Kane took one step closer to nearing Shearer’s incredible record in the English top-flight by bagging a brace against Manchester City the previous weekend, as he scored late on to condemn them to a home defeat.

Build something important

The England skipper looks full of confidence and ready to take on challenges under Conte, as Kane looks to have found his scoring boots after misplacing them in the earlier half of the season when he struggled in front of goal.

Conte admitted that he had three or four months left with Kane and Co. to help them get closer to winning trophies, but said that the players were understanding of the current situation at the club.

“We are trying to start to build something important together. It won’t be easy but I think Harry, like the other players, understood the situation. We have to train for three or four months to try to improve and build something important.”

Conte will look to use the next few months to convince Harry Kane to stay at Spurs.

Kane is an ambitious player who would certainly want to add trophies to his cabinet after going his entire senior career so far without a team title. He has come close to winning the Euros with England last summer and crashed out of the League Cup and Champions League finals with Spurs in recent years.

Spurs have not won a trophy since our 2008 League Cup triumph, and time may be running out for the club to convince their ambitious players like Kane to stay and win titles in north London. For many years now, it seemed likely that the 28-year-old would be likely to win trophies elsewhere.

However, the Lilywhites have sent a strong message to their opponents and their own players that the club means serious business now, with the appointment of Conte as manager. The Italian is a serial winner across multiple leagues with different clubs, and has prior experience in England after leading Chelsea to the PL title in his first season in England.

Kane seems to be revitalised under Conte right now, and the head coach knows just how important the striker is to the club and to him to win trophies. The former Chelsea boss will be hoping to end the season strongly in order to convince his talisman to stay in north London and achieve success together.
