Tottenham Hotspur players reveal what kind of demands Antonio Conte made ahead of Leicester City win

While speaking in an interview with Spurs TV, as quoted by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur stars Ben Davies and Cristian Romero revealed what kind of expectations head manager Antonio Conte keeps from them.

Tottenham secured a crucial win against Leicester City by a 3-1 scoreline, thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. However, they weren’t the only players that put up incredible performances.

Spurs showcased a team effort in their win where every player contributed something. They were successful in both defensive and attacking transitions. While discussing their performances in the post-match press conference, Davies and Romero suggested why they showcased such desire during the game.

The Welshman in particular had a fantastic night against Leicester. When asked about what sparked the confidence and desire to perform at such a high level, the Welsh star suggested that the manager’s demand for a solid comeback might have influenced them to put in their peak output.

“We played with confidence; we were clinical when we needed to be and a good three points. Yeah, that was what the gaffer demanded. He demanded that we go out there and put on a good performance and show that we’ve got the character to bounce back, and that’s what we did today.”

Argentine star Cristian Romero was one of the most lively figures in the game. The 23-year-old revealed that the Italian manager expects defenders to remain one step ahead of the opponent.

“As defenders, we want to be on the front foot, and that’s what the manager asks for.”

Antonio Conte has brought impressive changes in mindset

The Italian manager is known for implementing a demanding regime under his managerial term. He has been successful so far as his teams have gone on to secure impressive achievements in domestic and European football.

Conte seems to have done the same at N17. The players can see the desire their manager displays on the touchline and replicate it on the field. This Spurs team isn’t what Conte assembled, barring Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur- but the ex-Chelsea man has certainly left his mark on the players that were already here.

Sure, we have somewhat let Arsenal leapfrog us in the race for top four but one must remember how unlikely it was looking that we qualified for UCL in the initial days surrounding Conte’s appointment.

Even though Tottenham are far from becoming a title challenger right now, they have improved a lot under Antonio Conte. If they continue to show similar efforts in the following game, then Champions League qualification for the next season doesn’t look far.
