Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Cody Gakpo this summer
According to Sky Sports (h/t football.london), Tottenham are interested in the transfer of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old winger has garnered interest from Spurs after an impressive spell in the Eredivisie.
Arsenal are also one of the clubs looking at the Dutch national as a possible option to bolster their frontline. The North London rivals will now square off away from the field and take their rivalry to the transfer window.
An addition to the frontline
Primarily playing on the left for PSV, Gakpo has featured 134 times for the club from Eindhoven. The 23-year-old has had an impressive season for his side as he registered 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances for the Rood-Witten.
Antonio Conte has already made some important additions to the squad with the signings of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.
If he were to sign for Tottenham though, the Dutch national would have to compete with Son Heung-min for a starting position on the left flank. It’s unlikely that Gakpo will be able to get in ahead of one of last year’s Golden Boot winners.
Harry Kane is another forward that has cemented a place in the squad. This leaves getting into the right-hand side of the attack a more attainable target and will provide Dejan Kulusevski with the competition needed to stay on his A-game.
A more realistic role would be as a backup in the squad as Steven Bergwijn looks
for a move away from the North London club. But it remains to be seen whether the Dutch national decides to move to a team where regular football isn’t guaranteed. It could jeopardise his chances of making Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As of now, it seems unlikely that Gakpo would opt for a move to either North London club with Qatar on his mind. Whether that will change in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
