Transfer News: Villarreal confident of signing Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Spanish club Villarreal are still confident of a deal for talented Argentinian playmaker Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The talented midfielder played for the Yellow Submarine on loan last season and really impressed for Unai Emery’s side in their unlikely run to the Champions League semi-final last campaign.
Lo Celso is a talented midfielder who has not been able to show his quality in a Spurs shirt. Although we have seen glimpses of his true potential on rare occasions, it has not been consistent enough.
The 26-year-old initially joined the Lilywhites on loan from Real Betis in 2019 and had an impressive campaign at N17. This prompted the club to make his move permanent the following summer.
However, ever since, Lo Celso has failed to produce anything of significance during his time as a Tottenham player. He played his best football in a Villarreal shirt last season when we loaned him out.
Antonio Conte has made it very clear that Lo Celso is not in his plans and did not call him up to the pre-season tour or for Spurs’ first match of the season. It is best that the Argentinian leaves.
Lo Celso finds himself firmly in the plans of Lionel Scaloni for the national team. With a World cup coming up later this year, the Argentinian will want to play regular football ahead of the showdown in Qatar.
