Transfer News: Napoli eye summer move for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Giovani Lo Celso

Napoli have emerged as a likely destination for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Giovani Lo Celso this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport via Football Italia (h/t Football.London).

The 26-year-old midfielder clearly lost Antonio Conte’s trust as a regular starter last season. He was allowed to join Villarreal on loan mid-season and Lo Celso is now left out of the travelling Spurs squad to Israel this weekend.

He is apparently ‘highly rated’ by the Neopolitans, which bodes well for Spurs and Lo Celso, granted they both want to make an exit happen. After all, Napoli are one of the biggest clubs in Italy.

If the Argentine can impress there in the coming months, there is every chance he makes the plan to Qatar with La Albiceleste later this year. Lo Celso has made himself a constant in Lionel Scaloni’s team in the past couple of seasons.

Lo Celso headed out?

The Rosario-born midfielder already has 39 caps for his senior team and would certainly envision himself at a club where his abilities are respected and where he can be an important first-team player.

It doesn’t seem likely that Spurs can do that at the moment. Conte’s system allows for two central midfielders, of which one is the ever-fit Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

For the other spot, Spurs have signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma this year. Conte wouldn’t have brought these two talented midfielders to N17 if he didn’t plan on using them.

Hence, a move away from Tottenham for Lo Celso suits all parties. Whether anything gets finalised before Spurs’ opening Premier League game against Southampton, however, remains to be seen.
