Transfer News: Sergio Reguilon could stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer
According to The Boot Room, Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon could stay at the club this summer. The 25-year-old has interest from different clubs this transfer window.
Di Marzio reported that Serie A side Lazio were interested in the left-back, while the Daily Mail says that Nottingham Forest are interested in the 25-year-old. But the former Real Madrid could now stay at his current club.
This is because his wages are said to be a stumbling block for the clubs interested. And this could be a headache for Tottenham and Antonio Conte.
Conte has been clear that the 25-year-old is not part of his plans for this season. The Spaniard was not included in the pre-season squad and is said to have been training away from the team for quite some time.
Ryan Sessegnon and new arrival Ivan Perisic are the two preferred options by Conte for the left wing-back position in his setup. These two are to compete for a place in the team, although it is likely Perisic will be the regular starter.
If this was not enough, the club has also signed Destiny Udogie, but he has been loaned back to Udinese. He is likely to become a regular in the future, potentially leaving Reguilon in no-man’s land.
The Spanish international is very likely to get very less playing time this season. It will be wise for him to go elsewhere and ply his trade. The 25-year-old has huge potential in him and it is still not too late for him to eye a place in the Spanish National team for the World Cup in November.
