Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur prepared to pay release clause for Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro
According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to pay the £39 million release clause for Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro.
Spurs have struggled in the right-back position this season with first-choice Emerson Royal not being able to live up to the expectations from him. The 23-year-old lacks the attacking threat going forward, while also has committed silly mistakes at the back.
Other options like Matt Doherty and Djed Spence have also failed to provide competition with the former even struggling to get in some playing time this season.
A former Manchester City player, Porro spent all his years there on loan to different clubs. The 23-year-old sealed a move to Portugal this May after having spent a successful loan spell there last season.
He has been a regular playing in 18 games for the Portuguese side in all competitions, registering eight assists in the process. The Spaniard even played against Spurs in the Champions League group-stage game winning one 2-0 and drawing the other 1-1.
While he is a young and up-and-coming talent and Conte could do with someone like him on the right side, the most positive thing about his transfer would be that he already plays in a similar 3-4-3 set-up at Sporting.
The player has excelled playing as a right wing-back in Portugal and would make an exciting addition to the squad. Also, his release clause is not a huge figure and the north London club should not have any problem financially sealing the deal.
