Romano confirms Tottenham will hold conversations for Piero Hincapie
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold conversations for talented Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie.
Hincapie has been linked with a move to Tottenham for quite some time now. The talented defender has had a great time at Bayer Leverkusen and he has been tipped for a big move to a top club.
The Ecuadorian centre-back won the hearts of many people with his performances in the World Cup. He was one of the South American nation’s best young players alongside Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The 21-year-old centre-back is touted as a long-term transfer target of Antonio Conte. However, Spurs have not yet made a move for the defender but all that seems to be set to change now.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Lilywhites are set to begin talks with Hincapie and try and bring him to N17.
“Also wanted to add on Tottenham that they will have some talks also for Piero Hincapie. The centre-back of Bayer Leverkusen, Ecuadorian player, very good player also appreciated by Italian clubs.
“But Tottenham will have some conversation now with the idea of signing him in the summer. So Hincapie is also on Tottenham’s list.”
The mention of Italian clubs on the list interested in Hincapie is not good news for Tottenham. However, if there is one person who is well-informed about Italian football, it is our sporting director Fabio Paratici.
Paratici will know that he will have to keep a keen eye out on this situation and act quickly if he sees some club pursuing a deal for the Ecuadorian. Signing Hincapie would be a great deal by Tottenham.
A player who is left-footed, Hincapie can play at centre-back and left-back. If we end up signing him, we will have a player who plays in the Ben Davies role and he would be an upgrade on the Welshman.
