Gary Neville urges Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to join Manchester United

Gary Neville has told Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur and join Manchester United if he wants to win silverware. He is our club’s all-time top scorer but the 29-year-old is yet to win a trophy here.

Writing in his column on Sky Sports, the former Manchester United and England right-back said:

“Tottenham fans will be furious with me, they’ll say it’s me coming on television trying to get their player to Manchester United. It’s not. It just looks to me at this moment in time the most likely move.

“Chelsea, I can’t see him going there. He’s quite loyal to Tottenham and there’s a big rivalry with Chelsea, so I don’t see that happening, even though they do need a centre-forward. He’s not going to go to Arsenal, because of the rivalry, so Manchester United is the only option in England for Harry Kane this summer.

“Bayern Munich have been mentioned. That could happen and I think Daniel Levy would be happier if he was to go internationally, so we could see that. But I think Harry, if he wants to win trophies, is going to have to leave Tottenham, because Tottenham do struggle with that aspect.”

Neville makes sense to some extent. Arsenal and Chelsea are two of Tottenham’s biggest rivals and it would be odd if Spurs, especially chairman Daniel Levy, let our greatest-ever player join them at our expense.

Manchester United would seem like the only option if Harry Kane was to leave N17 this summer. He has 16 months left on his contract at Spurs and is yet to renew it (Transfermarkt).

He would want to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals. Staying in England is, obviously, the only way to do it. Man United do need a centre-forward despite Marcus Rashford’s form after losing Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo last year.

But one must remind Neville that Manchester United won the EFL Cup in February after a four-and-a-half-year wait for silverware. Of course, we haven’t won anything for 15 years, but it’s not like Manchester United are flying right now.

They last made the UEFA Champions League final in 2011. We did it in 2019. Spurs finished in the top four last season at Manchester United’s expense and both teams are on course to qualify for the competition for next season. What United can do, Spurs can as well. Hopefully, Kane also sees it that way.
