Brentford manager Thomas Frank addresses links to Tottenham Hotspur job

Thomas Frank has claimed that he is very happy at Brentford amid links to the job at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Danish manager has made waves ever since he joined the Bees. He helped them gain promotion to the top flight for the first time 74 years and have made them a mainstay in the Premier League.

Brentford are currently ninth in the Premier League after 24 games. He is really working miracles at the Gtech Community Stadium and there is no surprise that he would be a name mentioned in the conversation for who could be the next Tottenham manager if Antonio Conte leaves.

Addressing his links to the job in N17, Frank said (h/t @FabrizioRomano):

“First of all they’ve a great manager I’ve studied for long time, I hope he will do important things… and then, I’m very very happy here at Brentford.”

He would obviously be referring to Conte here, who has won the domestic league title with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan. He hasn’t the best record in Europe, which was tarnished further this week when AC Milan dumped us out of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

His contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to pen fresh terms. After the full-time whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night, Conte claimed that there is a chance Spurs sack him before his contract runs out.

Whether that is a tongue-in-cheek comment or a serious point that he wanted to make, his future at Spurs has never seemed so uncertain. There will be a lot of names that will be linked to us.

It was the same when we were looking for a new manager after Jose Mourinho’s abrupt sacking. We ended up appointing Nuno Espirito Santo then – whose highlight was managing Wolverhampton Wanderers during that point in his career.

We could be going down the same path with Frank, at least on paper, with the 49-year-old not having any real experience at a top European club apart from Brentford. But the fact that the Bees are now in that bracket is down to him, and that in itself could be enough to convince teams to take a shot at him.

The question is, are we in a spot where we can experiment, or do we go for another big-name appointment if Conte walks?
