Tottenham are ramping up their efforts to land Porto goalie Diogo Costa

According to Portuguese publication A Bola, Tottenham Hotspur have taken the first step towards signing Diogo Costa, the talented goalkeeper of FC Porto.

The 23-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects in Europe, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by some of the biggest clubs on the continent. Tottenham are no different.

Tottenham, in particular, are in dire need of a new goalkeeper. While Hugo Lloris has been an excellent servant for the club, his age and declining performances make him a liability in the long term.

Lloris, who has been Tottenham’s number one for over a decade, has committed numerous errors leading to goals this season, and his reflexes have dulled with time. He looks a pale shadow of the player he once was.

To replace him, Tottenham have been linked with several goalkeepers, including some of the best young talents in the Premier League. However, it is Diogo Costa who has emerged as the prime target for the North London club.

Costa, who has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Porto and the Portugal national team for some time, has attracted interest from Manchester United in the past. However, with the Red Devils now happy with the form of David de Gea, the door has opened for Tottenham to make their move.

The young Portuguese goalkeeper has been in excellent form this season, with several match-winning performances under his belt. His agility, quick reflexes, and excellent shot-stopping ability have made him a standout performer.

Tottenham scouts reportedly flew to Portugal to observe Costa in action as Porto took on Inter Milan in the Champions League. Despite the game ending in a goalless draw, Costa was impressive between the sticks, making several crucial saves to keep his team in the game.

If Tottenham do manage to sign Costa, it would be a significant coup for the club. With potentially a new manager and a potentially new goalkeeper, the club could be looking to usher in a new era of success.
