Tottenham will have to pay the release clause to land Diogo Costa
According to the print edition of Correio da Manha, Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay the release clause of talented Portuguese goalie Diogo Costa to bring him to N17.
Despite being a relatively young goalkeeper, Costa has already made a name for himself in Portugal, and it’s no surprise that he has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe including Tottenham.
After all, his impressive performances in Porto’s first team have helped the club to remain competitive in the Primeira Liga, as well as in European competitions. He is also a mainstay in the Portuguese national team.
It’s also worth noting that Costa’s release clause is not an astronomical figure, and it’s well within the reach of a top English club like Tottenham. However, it’s clear that Porto are not going to let him go easily.
The fact that Porto recently raised Costa’s release clause from €60m to €75m is a clear indication of how highly they rate him. It’s a smart move on their part, as they know that he is a hot commodity in the European market.
For Tottenham, Costa would be an ideal replacement for Hugo Lloris, who has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for several years now. Lloris has been an excellent servant to the club, but at 34 years of age, it’s time for Tottenham to start thinking about the future.
Costa has all the attributes to be a top-class goalkeeper at the highest level. He’s quick off his line, he’s a good shot-stopper, and he has excellent distribution skills. Moreover, at 23 years of age, he still has a lot of room for improvement, and under the right guidance, he could become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
The talented young shot-stopper could be our answer to the long-term issues we have been having in the goalkeeping slot. Let’s see if we can convince the 23-year-old to choose Tottenham over other teams.
