Romano talks about Tottenham internal discussions regarding Julian Nagelsmann
Speaking on the House of Champions Youtube channel, popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have held internal discussions regarding Julien Nagelsmann.
While Romano clarified that he is not aware of any proposal to Nagelsmann or any concrete steps being taken towards his appointment, his comments has set the cat among the pigeons amongst Tottenham fans.
For many Tottenham supporters, Nagelsmann would be an exciting choice to replace former Italian boss Antonio Conte. Nagelsmann, who is just 35 years old, has already established himself as one of the most promising young coaches in Europe.
He led RB Leipzig to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2020. That won him a stint as the manager of Bayern Munich, where to be fair to him, the young tactician did a great job during his time there.
However, what he did was not sufficient to satisfy the expectations of the decision-makers at Bayern. Eventually, they decided to part ways with him and eventually appointed Thomas Tuchel as the manager.
Nagelsmann’s reputation for innovative tactics and intense training sessions would certainly fit with Tottenham’s desire to play attractive, attacking football. However, there are also reasons to be cautious about his potential appointment.
For one, he has never managed in the Premier League before, and it remains to be seen whether his methods would translate to the unique demands of English football where the intensity is much higher.
Speaking about Tottenham considering Nagelsmann as their next manager, here is what Romano had to say
“Honestly it’s true that Tottenham have had some internal discussion about Nagelsmann. I am not aware of any proposal to Nagelsmann, I’m not aware of anything that has been passed between them at this stage”
Of course, it’s important to remember that Romano’s comments suggest that Tottenham’s interest in Nagelsmann may not be as advanced as some fans are hoping. As he noted, there are likely several other candidates on the club’s shortlist.
